GUIDED BOOK STUDY FOR GROUPS
‘Poiēma, God’s Workmanship‘ is suitable for facilitated book study in a group environment, whether in cell groups or seminar-style training sessions.
As every cell or church group is different in its make-up, it is of our opinion that a one-size-fit-all workbook, though expedient, may not be appropriate for the needs, stages of development, and academic rigour of a group. However, as we also recognise that many group leaders or facilitators would appreciate a sample list of discussion questions to jump-start their creative juices, we have created the following sample list of discussion questions based on the Introduction of the book:
- How does the Parable of the Adopted Son challenge our prevalent thinking concerning our salvation and our relationship with the Father?
- Define worship. What is informed worship?
- Why is informed worship so important in our walk with God? How can we be more informed in our worship?
- From leaving his home town to sacrifice of Isaac, what can we learn from Abraham’s life of faith and worship in the light of Romans 12:1-2 and Deuteronomy 10:12-13?
- Describe some areas that we need to change – as individuals, family, and church – in our life of faith and worship.
- Reflect upon your life as clay in the Potter’s hands. How do you envision yourself as the masterpiece of God?
- Israel was without the true God even though they were worshipping God as God’s chosen people (2 Chronicle 15:3);
- Can we consciously or mentally induce the feel of the presence of God without the actual presence of God? (Hint: Remember Peter Pan?)
- Can this happen to us as well? If yes, how can we prevent this from happening to us or in our church?
- Why is it important to know the God of our salvation rather than just the salvation of our God?
- Is accurate knowledge of theology critical to Christian living? How does theology enable right believing that will lead to right living? Give examples.
- From John 17:11, 21-23; discuss the nature and quality of the oneness and perfect unity that Jesus desired for His disciples and the church. Will this prayer of Jesus come to pass? How shall we let His will be done on earth just as He desired?
- From Philippians 1:6, how does perfection look like to you? What kind of perfect workmanship is Jesus looking for in His bride-to-be?
